La Sosta is one of my favorite restaurants in CA. This is a small quaint northern Italian restaurant on the corner of Manhattan Ave and 27th St. We always drove by and wondered how it is since it is in the quiet side of town, yet they always seem to have many people in the restaurant when it's open.

When I think of this place... my eyes sparkle and my heart almost melts. There is something special and magical about this place. This place is so cozy and probably only holds less than 60 people. So, it feels very private and personal.

Ever since my first visit, I've been wanting to go back there for a long long time!
This time, Paul & I were talking about trying their famous "Cutting Board" which comes with variety of different cheeses, pates, and slices of different meats. But once we got there, we started thinking... it might be too filling for an appetizer for two, so we decided to try when we came back with more people! (But, we kept drooling over other people's "cutting board" and wished we got that this time...:P) Ohh... it would have went so well with our wine.... (They also have very good wine here.) We'll order it next time for sure! Well, instead, we ordered very refreshing dinner salads this time which was also very good!!

pictures above - While we wait for our food, they serve different types of breads in a basket along with some cut vegetables with interesting salty-creamy dipping sauce. Both of them are nice off-set for the type of food they serve here. They don't stuff you, they go well with your dinner. We usually munch on the vegetables and the flat crunchy bread before we get our plates. And we usually eat their hard bread with our meal by scraping off the sauce on our plates.

For our entree, we ordered our favorite lobster gnocchi which is just unbelievably AMAZING! (I never liked gnocchi before trying at this place... But, now I'm a big fan!) We also ordered their special dish with Monk Fish which came with tasty Zucchini and Potatoes. Everything we ordered was just stunning and couldn't be happier.

It is however very pricey here as well.
When we went there for the first time, the owner came to greet us and gave us recommendations on different dishes. There was a dish we were interested in ordering and couldn't find it on the menu... Then he explains that he decided not to serve the particular dish for that day since he couldn't find the fresh ingredient he needed that morning. Wow, yes I was VERY impressed. I guess that's the price we pay for :)
But, for this magnificent experience, I think it's worth it. Good romantic place to go for anniversary :) I can't wait for our next visit!

Paul:

Fantastic review... and yes... we LOVE this place. Best in the South Bay?? Yes, I think so.

Lobster Gnocchi sounds yummy! BTW, how spendy is "$$$$" on your rating scale? Was The Hump sushi "$$$$" or "$$$$$+"?
What was the special occasion - or still celebrating your birthday? :)

302:

Let's see... you could easily spend over $100 per person here. I believe my dad dropped about $700 or more (between 3guys), but he ordered a bottle of wine.

I gave the Hump $$$$$ for their price. I think our bill was $150 per person (or was it more..?), and I didn't feel like we got what we paid for :P
