All of us went out to Sushi/contemporary Japanese cuisine, KATSUYA for my birthday. It was by Riki's recommendation this time (Thanks Riki!!).
KATSUYA is designed by Philip Starck and is a very sleek, sexy, cool, high-end, and very Hollywood-like place (in the good way) ;) I loved and enjoyed the whole experience of being there.
Paul & I got there little early, so we decided to hang out at the bar. They have the most unique refreshing mixed drinks!!! Yumm Yumm! I ended up trying this drink called "Cilantro Mango Smooth" which has Fresh Cilantro Cut W/ Pureed Mango, Bacardi Light Rum, Fresh Citrus, and Angostura Bitters. Very refreshing and a GOOD drink! Highly recommended. Judy and Fabian were having many of their creative drinks, and they were all unique, original, and all amazing!

I couldn't stop looking around and checking the space and different people going in and out... Wow! Ok, so I looked over the menu, and they seemed to have wide variety of different creative dishes here, so we decided to order samples of different creative plates instead of ordering straight traditional sushi this time. (I was thinking... this might be the way to go for a place like this. Anyway...)
We ordered their crispy rice with Tuna Tartar. (I honestly didn't know what to expect... thinking... Crispy Rice?!) It was like sushi (picture above) except that the rice was crispy (I believe it was grilled). The crispy rice had very good flavor and went well with Tuna Tartar. Very simple, yet good. Then, we ordered this amazing Grilled Black Cod Miso dish Riki was having. It just melted in your month. And their Kobe beef foi gras was so soft... Paul's favorite was Seared Ahi with Crispy Onion, and that was good as well. We also ordered a few different rolls, and they were very tasty as well. I was very impressed with the presentation of their food, unique mixture of flavor, and very much enjoyed the atmosphere.

I'm not usually a dessert person, but I got their homemade strawberry shortcake with white flower tea. The cake was very light and not too sweet (just the way I like it!).
All of us kept talking about our friend Karen in Portland... We all wished you were here!
