Hip Japanese Maid Cafe in Culver City.
I love their space, atmosphere, and the idea of the cafe. They transformed Japanese Maid Cafe from Nerd Otaku Culture into a hip urban Japanese cafe. It isn't a true "Maid Cafe" style you would find in Japan... Only thing that says "Maid Cafe" is the waitresses wearing maid costume :) Well, I like it this way better.
This cafe offers very cool gallery space with a small art store attached... and spacious room for the cafe... and the back room also showcases some art installation as well as some film screening. :)
The food here is served in very small portion, so I won't recommend going there when you're starving! Hehehe... Their food is usually very simple with fresh ingredients. I liked their sandwiches and some of the rice bowls I've tried :) But, the flavor of their food is very Americanized... not very Japanese. One thing I will not be getting for sure is their Homemade Chicken Curry Bowl :( They are NOT curry!! They were more like bland tomato stew (no vegetable) with 1 dram stick chicken. They not only tasted bland but very hard to eat. Well... I still like this place, and I will keep going back there tho.
They also serves high-tea with small pastries, mini quiche, kappa maki, california roll, egg salad and spicy tuna finger sandwiches which I'm thinking of trying next time we go there :)
