Tortoise is having an exhibition of the Sea Stone Vases by Mitsuru Koga till end of upcoming weekend (November 02, 2008 Sun). The Japanese artist, Mitsuru Koga transforms ordinary object into minimalist design enhancing its own natural beauty.

I took my friend from Tokyo (Yosh) to the Tortoise the other day. I wanted to introduce him to some of my favorite stores in the area :) Then, we discovered about this art show... and the artist Mitsuru Koga turned out to be Yosh's friend. What a small world!

These beautiful vases are very tiny and made out of sea stones that he personally picked from the walk at the beach. The art making already starts from picking the most beautiful stones that catches his eyes. He explains that the process of shaping the stone is very similar to the process of how those stones reached to the shore carried by the waves. Each stone is sandblasted and shaped by rubbing against other stones.

Sea stone vases from our local beach (Palos Verdes, CA) is available only at the Tortoise.
