Sia performed tracks from her new album, 'some people have REAL problems', as part of special in-store appearance at Amoeba Music last night! She is an amazing singer... I caught her interview on indie 103.1 with Jonesy drive up to Amoeba, and she sounded like she has a cold with cough. But wow... that didn't affect her singing style or her energy. Awesome, Awesome!
My recent cool discovery... a Japanese-born DJ, Towa Tei. I kept looking him up every time his song played on my LastFm radio :) I recognized some of his songs, but what surprised me was that he was Japanese. Well, he is Korean but grew up in Japan to be exact :)

The Parrots rocks!!
Just the other day, we heard about The Parrots on NPR on the way to work. The parrots is the Beatles tribute band in Japan, and we thought it would be fun to check them out while we were in Japan.
Stunning and magical show! Must see while they are in your town!!
Cirque Du Soleil is in town now performing Corteo in the tent under the Grand Chapiteau at The Forum, Los Angeles. This was our first time going to see their tent shows... and I was blown away by their performances, stage presence, set design, and the costume design. Very European, classical, and nostalgic style. It just took me away to a complete different world. Everything about it was just ...wonderful.
We went to another First Fridays at the Natural History Museum and saw Autolux and Deerhoof! It was an awesome show, and this place was packed solid with people :) I didn't know much about Deerhoof beforehand, but their performance blew me away. So much energy and creativity.
My recent favorite music called "Hana" by Asa-Chang & Junray (Japanese band).
There music is almost like an abstract play in a dreamland. I got goose bumps when I heard their song for the first time. Very inspiring...
My latest addiction, last.fm. (Thanks to Judy!!)
Once you sign up and download/install the software, last.fm starts synchronizing with your iTunes, Windows Media Player, Skype... and more!
The cool thing about it is that each user has their own "radio station" and stores the music you played on iTunes (and other music applications). So, you can basically enjoy listening to other people's music recommendations and end up discovering more artists you might like.
It seems like music is the best thing to help keep my mind focused for comfort... especially right now...
Kinky Friedman was Paul's father's favorite artist. Paul often tells me that Kinky Friedman reminds him of his dad. I never really got to listen to his music until we started planning for the memorial... After listening to more of Kinky Friedman music and reading some of the lyrics closer, I'm understanding it more.
I really like one of her songs "A Song for Kids" when I caught it on KCRW and have been wondering who the artist was :) She'll be playing at the Troubadour on Friday night at 10pm! It would be cool to check her out.
I read an article about KAMINI on BRUTUS and thought "What an inspiring story!"
KAMINI who works as a nurse and lives in Marly-Gomont, France (...there is supposedly nothing but cows and farms there) wanted to be a hip-hop artist. He has written his songs for the past 10 years, recorded a song, and put together a music video with a friend.
Frankie Masters has been on my list of music to get ever since I caught his music at LIVE365 on iTunes. LIVE 365 is a great online jazz radio station, and they focus on playing JAZZ from the 40s, 50s and 60s era of this great music.
Wonderful buy at Tower Records!! 40% Off :D
We bought many CDs and DVDs at Tower Records over this past weekend since they are going out of business. And Stubbs The Zombie soundtrack was one of them.
It is a cool soundtrack from a video game, and all the tracks are 50's songs done in the modern/retro style by modern artists such as "The Dandy Warhols", "The Flaming Lips", and "Oranger".

Have you heard of Sophe Lux before? I got asked to become their friends on MySpace last month, and that's how I discovered them. Ever since then, I go back to listen to their music on MySpace everyday. Very impressive artistic band! It is rock music with a somewhat theatrical twist. The vocalist knows how to manipulate her voice and creates this interesting weird singing style. I love them!!
Another music band we love...
Paul & I saw CSS last night at John Anson Ford Theater as an opening band for Ladytron. We love Ladytron, and that is the reason we went to the show without knowing much about CSS. But we were just blown away by the cute little Japanese-Brazilian singer LOVEFOXXX. She had so much energy jumping up and down, rolling onto the crowd, taking off layers of her dress/outfit, making the crowd dance and sing!
I have been looking forward for this event, and it's finally tonight (Oct, 10th)!!!!
The Dresden Dolls is performing at the Orpheum Theatre at 7pm! They are an amazing (punk/theatrical) band with full of energy... They definitely have their original unique style in the way they approach their music.
LA WEEKLY DETOUR was a blast!!
There were more bands and DJs we originally wanted to check out.. :) But, we got around to see BLONDE REDHEAD which was awesome, REDD KROSS (Amazing!!!!), then got more beer to walk over to catch Weird Science, The Elected, and Nortec Collective before Beck started... Pretty crazy plan ;-)
YAY :) Ladytron will be playing at various different places in Northern America! We just bought tickets to the show on Oct 17th! Here is the list of the shows in Southern California. I'm so excited!!
I have to say... My favorite was Sia's song with ZERO7. Her songs were so emotional and full of energy. We get chills just thinking about it. We sat really far away... I think our tickets were $15 each. Sorry for the blurry picture, but that was as good as I could take a photo of Sia on their big screen!!

Sunset Junction is LA's largest street fair! I've lived in LA for 7 years before, but this is my second year to go to Sunset Junction. So, it's still pretty new and exciting to me :) There are so many cool arty vendors, good fair food, and they have good music bands playing! Good place to visit as long as you can find parking.
LA based band "Ditty Bops" have a completely different approach of touring to support their new "Moon Over the Freeway" album. They are going on a 3 month cross-country tour entirely on their bicycles (they started on May 25th)!! That's right! On BICYCLE! I've been listening to their music for a while now. I first caught one of their songs played on KCRW, and I immediately loved their style of music. Nice harmony with the duo of Amanda Barrett and Abby DeWald. All of their songs have an interesting mixture of western swing, jazz, and musical theater flavors. It puts your mood into the days of yore, back in the time, and a retro groovy lounge feel. Very cool band and highly recommended :) And they have a good sense of humor as well!
If you visit LA in the summer time, you should definitely check the schedule for all the events at Hollywood Bowl. They have exciting events all summer long between June to September. Tickets usually go from as cheap as $5 to $100 (and more). I recommend purchasing tickets early and plan your summer in advance :)
I don't really know much about her, but I definitely like her music. Check her songs on her MySpace page if you are interested :) I caught her song on KCRW the other day. I believe she self produced her songs and still at demo stage.
I would love to go see her play!
If anybody knows any information, please post your comments :)
